Oakland2Ivy - The Book
About the book..
A question that I am often asked is “How did you and your brother have essentially the same upbringing but turn out so differently?” For those of you who do not know, my brother Azeem was recently released from a forty-one month prison sentence. While I am currently nineteen and thriving at Yale, he was headed to the federal penitentiary at nineteen years old. We were raised in the same household, went to the same schools, and participated in almost all of the same extracurricular activities, yet after high school graduation we were on completely different paths. There isn’t one deciding factor that shaped the difference in our lives, but rather a build up of microcosms that illustrate how a combination of many aspects of your life can shape the way in which your life can turn out. Oakland2Ivy will tell the story of our lives, opening up about the complete truth and juxtaposing our lives to one another to provide a narrative for future generations to learn from. However, our stories do not stop here. This is a story of redemption, a story of overcoming adversity, a story for all.
